Energy underwritten by compute
Placement: a judgment drawn from the evidence, open to correction (dispute it).
The model
- Definition
- A hyperscaler signs a long-term power purchase agreement (often 15-20+ years) that is large and creditworthy enough to underwrite the restart, life extension, expansion or new build of a specific power generation asset (often nuclear), effectively acting as project financier for energy infrastructure via its data center demand.
- In one line
- Tech companies sign long power contracts large enough to restart, extend or build power plants.
- What compounds
- AI demand finances generation, and the generation enables more AI demand.
- Who accelerates
- Firm clean power gets built that might not otherwise be; local communities bear the siting questions.
- What it displaces
- Utility-led planning as the main driver of new generation.
- Stops working when
- If AI power demand falls short of the contracts. New-build reactors are years from delivery (Kairos targets 2030).

The three labels
Leveraged · loop gain borrowed. A flag, off the ladder: the gain comes from expectations of the curve and reverses if it slows.
Owning the scarce inputs · money lands in compute, energy, capital, capacity.
Capital loop · expected demand, capital, capacity, demand that justifies more capital.
